Q: HOW MANY SERVERS DO I NEED FOR MY PARTY?
A: The number of servers you will need depends on what type of party you are having (cocktail party / dinner buffet / plated meal function), the number of guests you are expecting, the timeline of service for your event, and whether you are using real plates and glass or disposable items. Simply Servers will assist you in determining the correct number of servers needed for your event. Simply Servers reserves the right to require a minimum number of servers for a party if the expectations for service and the physical requirements of the event are so great that service standards would be compromised using fewer servers.
Q: DO YOUR SERVERS JUST SERVE, OR WILL THEY HELP WITH SETUP, DISHES, AND TRASH?
A: As trained professionals, our servers will assist with all aspects of service for your party. When you place your order with us, we ask you about your needs for setup, service, and breakdown so that we can communicate those expectations to the servers working your event. Every client is different. If you like to be hands on, let us know. If you want us to run the show so you can host your party, we need to schedule a server that is comfortable in that position.
Q: CAN I REQUEST A CERTAIN TYPE OF SERVER?
A: In most cases, yes. If you prefer a server that is more outgoing, or a server that has experience in something very specific to your event, please let us know. For legal reasons, we cannot guarantee specifically a male server or a female server unless there is a justifiable reason. We take great pride in the professionalism, skill, reliability, and image consciousness of our staff. All of servers undergo extensive interviews and background checks, so language barriers are never a problem with our staff. In our 17+ years in the event and party industry, we have worked all kinds of events. If your event is sensitive in nature or has an alternative theme, please let us know so we can schedule a server that will be comfortable with you and your guests.
Q: CAN YOUR SERVERS ALSO SERVE ALCOHOL?
A: Yes. Our servers regularly assist in serving alcohol by cocktailing beverages and pouring wine with dinner. However, we can only serve alcohol at your event if all of the alcohol is within our control. Simply Servers cannot accept the responsibility or liability of alcohol service if guests are allowed to serve themselves.
If you are serving a full bar, please contact our sister company Pour Masters Bartending Service. Simply Servers can assist with beer and wine service directly, and can serve liquor cocktail style if prepared by a bartender. If you are hiring a bartender for your party and would like Simply Servers to assist with alcohol service, the bartender you hire must be from a licensed and insured bartending service.
All of our servers are required to have current certifications in the ABC/LEAD Alcohol Awareness program and State of California liquor law training. Per state law, we will serve alcohol responsibly, serving only persons 21 years of age or older and by monitoring guests to prevent over-consumption.
Q: CAN YOUR SERVERS STOP AND PICKUP THE FOOD AND EQUIPMENT FROM OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT ON THE WAY TO SERVING OUR PARTY?
A: Unfortunately, our liability does not cover our servers’ personal vehicles and the transport of equipment, food, etc. We can recommend a delivery or courier service if needed, or suggest other solutions to fit your individual situation. Similarly, our servers should not leave the location of the event mid-party to run errands such as going to the store for ice, etc.
Q: CAN YOUR SERVERS PREPARE FOOD FOR MY PARTY?
A: Our servers are trained in general serving techniques. Basic food preparation such as reheating something in the oven, or preparing a frozen appetizer using instructions on the box are common requests. If you need a server that is skilled in the kitchen, or if you will need our servers to plate up a served meal, please let us know. We are fortunate to have many servers that also have culinary arts degrees. However, their availability may be limited.
Q: HOW ARE YOUR SERVERS PAID / WHOM DO I PAY / DO YOU NEED A DEPOSIT?
A: As an employer, we legally pay our servers using normal payroll systems. This means that we pay employment taxes and workman’s compensation insurance. This is extra protection for our clients.
Your server will collect a check from you at the end of the event for the total hours worked. Payment is preferred by check or cash. We do accept major credit cards as long as the payment is processed prior to the event. Checks should be made out to SIMPLY SERVERS, not to the employee. Gratuity should not be included in the payment for our services and should be given to the employee directly.
We do not require a contract. When you place your order online, you agree to the terms and conditions of using our services. You will receive a confirmation of your order by email and that is your guarantee that we are providing services for your event. We do not require a deposit for most events. If you are using our party planning services or have hired more than 10 servers for your event, a credit card maybe requested to guarantee your event.
Q: HOW MUCH GRATUITY IS APPROPRIATE?
A: Gratuity will vary based on the size of the party, how much setup and breakdown is involved, and overall the service you received. We do NOT recommend basing your gratuity on a percentage like you would in a restaurant because in that situation you are generally tipping on a food and beverage total. Tipping based on the service you receive is more appropriate when dealing with labor only. On average, our servers receive between $25-$50 per server for a 4-6 hour shift. Certainly there are times when the tip should be greater, but ultimately it is up to each client to decide what they feel is appropriate.
